Towing Tips.
- Ensure the Coupling and Saftey chain are connected securely. Always use D Shackles of the same diameter as the chain.
- Add shackles or chain if necessary to ensure the saftey chain swings freely below the hitch. Or, if necessary, shorten it to avoid draging by securing a shackle through the second or third link. (Too short a saftey chain can snag on the coupling during turns and break either the chain or the coupling bolts whereas a chain that is too long may drag on the roadway wearing through).
- Release the park brake on four wheeled trailers
- Raise the Jockey Wheel and STOW HORIZONTALLY. Pull the release handle to swing the wheel to the horizontal.
- Check the Operation of Lights and over-ride brakes
- Note: If the hand brake does not hold the trailer when set on,then the road brakes require adjustment - best done by adjusting the lock nut mechanism inside the front wheels of the trailer.
- Secure the load with ropes, straps or chains as appropriate
- Ensure approximately 60% of mass is in the front half of the trailer with about 10% of mass weighing down on the coupling.
